US Bonds On Solana, New Solana Validator Client, $JUP Aftermath & More

Also: Read more about Jupiter’s origin story.

Welcome back!

This is J264G and this week I’ve got these titbits for you:

  • Client Evolution: Anza introduced Agave — a new validator client.

  • Lowering Barriers: Jupiter integrates zero-fee fiat on-ramps.

  • Crypto Bonds: Etherfuse rolls out two new on-chain bond types.

Last week, the Jupiter airdrop took place — one of the largest blockchain events ever!

But I’m not going to lie — Solana ecosystem teams definitely felt the heat 😅

So … what do we do now? That’s right, we keep on building!

Enter The Arena

Until recently, crypto was confined to a small and often volatile corner of the internet.

Mainly, that had to do with the lack of scalable infrastructure for both developers and users.

Enter Solana.

Solana has innovated substantially at the base layer to allow the next wave of crypto products to grow far beyond the existing market.

But Solana’s technology is not enough.

The ecosystem needs a growth machine that repeatably and scalably attracts, supports, and funds the most promising founders working to build category-defining products.

Enter Colosseum.

Colosseum’s mission is to consistently tap into the immense well of global builder talent and empower founders who have the ability to launch the next era of products that bring the world on-chain.

At its core, Colosseum is an independent organisation composed of three integrated pillars connected through a unified online platform:

  • Hackathon: Online hackathons have proven to be a crucible of innovation for crypto. As such, Colosseum will run 2-3 online hackathons per year for the Solana Foundation and the broader ecosystem — creating a level playing field for new teams globally to showcase their potential to build impactful products and services.

  • Accelerator: Participating in a Colosseum hackathon and being selected as a winner is the ticket into our accelerator. Colosseum’s accelerator is an online, five-week programme specifically designed for hackathon winners to access a diverse customer base, and receive 1:1 mentorship and ongoing educational content.

  • Venture Fund: The teams accepted into the accelerator programme will also receive an upfront pre-seed $250,000 investment from Colosseum. Additionally, accelerator teams will receive assistance on a consistent basis as they continue to develop their products and raise future rounds of funding.

Essentially, we see Colosseum as the scalable growth engine Solana’s startup ecosystem needs to break out the macroeconomic rollercoaster and drive mainstream adoption — sustainably.

If you're a builder, register here and find cofounders, share product ideas, and compete in our next online hackathon.

Before Colosseum, Matty was the Head of Growth at Solana Labs and the Solana Foundation, where he kickstarted Solana’s hackathon programme in 2020.

News Bites

Client Evolution: Last week, Anza — a team largely composed of executives and engineers from Solana Labs — announced that they will fork the current Solana Labs validator client and continue development under the name “Agave”. Starting with Agave 1.1, the current Solana Labs validator client will no longer be maintained.

Lowering Barriers: Mercuryo's fiat on-ramp has been integrated into Jupiter, allowing users to explore Solana and trade tokens with 0 fee credit card payments.

Crypto Bonds: In the past, we mentioned Etherfuse's Mexican crypto bonds. Now, the team has expanded its offering to include both US and Brazilian on-chain bonds as well.

BigSolana: If you'd like to work with Solana's historical data — you're in luck! Google has recently made Solana's historical blockchain data available via BigQuery.

Origin Story: You've all heard and used Jupiter — granted. But what does Dogecoin, Blockfolio, and WBTC have to do with the launch of Jupiter? Read the full origin story here to find out!

Status Update: 60,000 units of Solana Mobile’s second device — Chapter 2 — have already been pre-ordered. Read more about Chapter 2 here
