Solana Mobile Official Launch, Solana Held Hostage & More
Also: The Grizzlython Directory is now live with 800+ projects to browse through.
Welcome back!
This is J264G and this week we’ve got these titbits for you:
Hostage: It seems as if Solana’s Wikipedia page is being held hostage.
Launch: A launch data for Solana’s first mobile phone has been set.
Shipping: With EasyA code can now be shipped from mobile phones.
Initially I wanted to watch Chris Rock’s new Netflix special this weekend. Instead, I found myself reading all the Solana FUD on CT. I’m not going to lie, the amount of inaccurate and misleading information is comedy gold.
As hilarious as the FUD may be, it has IRL implications that may prove to be detrimental — as can be seen on Solana’s Wikipedia page, which we will discuss later.
For now, have a look at these:
Zoom in, wouldya? 👇

Wikipedia Dumpster Fire
Over the last couple of days, Solana's Wikipedia page has developed into a hot button issue — again.
🫡 Mission: Help make the Solana Wikipedia page honest & balanced.
Problem: As many of you are aware, the Solana Wikipedia page is a train wreck — replete with selective & immaterial negative information.
Cause: the article is a wrapper around mainstream https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sola…//twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

While Wikipedia is an incredibly useful resource, there are drawbacks:
Lack Of Credibility: Because anyone can edit a Wikipedia page, there’s a risk that some information may be inaccurate.
Incomplete Information: Some topics may not be covered on Wikipedia or may have incomplete information. This holds especially true for niche or technical subjects.
Vandalism: Unfortunately, Wikipedia can sometimes also be subject to intentional misinformation or vandalism, which can lead to inaccurate or misleading information.
Verification: Wikipedia relies on external sources to verify information, and the quality of these sources varies. This can affect the accuracy and reliability of the information on the site.
Editor Bias: Editors with a particular agenda may attempt to push their viewpoint or ideology on Wikipedia by adding biassed information or deleting information that contradicts their viewpoint.
When all of these limitations come together, they create a perfect storm.
Having said that, there is no better place to witness this than Solana's Wikipedia page.
Do yourself a favour and take a look at Solana's Wikipedia page and then compare it to Ethereum's.
Uncanny, right?
Apart from the stark difference when it comes to content length, Solana's page immediately starts out with a negative narrative, while Ethereum is discussed in a neutral and informative way.
Among the many issues revolving around Solana's page, the main problem seems to be editor bias.
It appears that the editors of Solana's Wikipedia page are influenced by their personal beliefs, opinions, and preferences (*cough* Ethereum maxi *cough*).
Arbitrum had a 7 hour outage last year because its single block-producing node, run by Offchain Labs, went down.
Optimism and Arbitrum both *still* have permissioned block production.
Ethereum L2s are consistently held to lower standards than non-Ethereum L1s.

Although Wikipedia has policies and guidelines that aim to ensure a neutral point of view, editor bias can still occur, and Solana's page is a perfect example of just that.
The only value of blockchains, really, is censorship resistance and self custody. Blockchains such as Solana allow people from all over the world to access these public goods easily and cheaply — compared to Ethereum and the nth L2.
Information is power when transformed into action, and as such Ethereum maxis disguised as Wikipedia editors may well stand in the way of the mass adoption of censorship resistance and self custody.
gotta build products that are so good that people are willing to figure out self custody

But aren't these the ideals they so feverishly try to uphold and defend? Or is this all just pure virtue signalling?
I love Ethereum and its entire technology ecosystem, but seemingly snobbish and bougie Ethereum maxis are rubbing me the wrong way.
Let's see how this saga pans out, after all, the platform's vision is: Wikipedia is a free online encyclopaedia that anyone can edit in good faith.

Chart Of The Week
CT loves to make fun of Solana’s downtimes. That’s fine I guess – but don’t miss out on the nuance.
There’s a reason we don’t see NFT mints turn into DDoS attacks anymore.
For almost every downtime issue Solana has had, the core contributors have deployed a solution.
